I Don't Know if This is the Right Place...

Hello,

I'm getting a job interview for Connect Pro Computer Services Expert – Level 1, what does this job entail?  I'm strong with computers; I have no formal background.  I'm usually tech support for 3-5 members of my family.  So, I'm wondering if I'll be proficient enough.

I've got experience in everything, except adding parts to the computer, except I've added RAM and Hard Drives to computer.

Thanks alot in advance.

Congratulations on getting the interview.

As a ConnectPro Service Expert I hope I can help you out a bit. First things first, you will be required to write your CompTia A+ certification within 60 (or maybe 90) days of hire. I consider this one of the most valuable certifications a bench technician can posses. It basically ensures that all the service experts have at least the basics covered.

Also, I cannot guess as to what your role would be (if you got hired) in the tech office, as I am not the one running it. But basically you would start off learning the policies and procedures of the repair process, as well as learning how to do setups on new computer purchases. I do apologize as I cannot provide specifics of each task, but also be aware that the service experts do spend a considerable amount of time with the customer. Whether it be face to face at the counter, or over the phone. Good communication, the ability to listen well (and not make assumptions), and courtesy are all traits that I found valuable when I started as a Level 1.

I hope that helps you out some.

Ok, thanks!  2-3 months should be a sufficient learning experience; coming into the test, I should *hopefully* pass.

On more question:  I'm only planning to work until September, then I'm heading off to University for Computer Science.  I know most of you wouldn't know; do you think they could transfer me up to a Future Shop in Ottawa?

Transfers are fairly common.  Of course, there would have to be an opening at a store in Ottawa, so keep an eye on the job board when you're at the store!
