World of Warcraft - Wraith of the Lich King update

Hello,

I like to let all you WOW fans out there know that we at fs.ca is working very hard for our WOW: ROTLK site for you. If it was up to me it would have been up back in last August. However Blizzard is holding all related material very close to their chest and we will only have access to all the common stuff.

We want to plan something really cool leading up to launch which by the way could be as early as the end of September / Early October. We are in the process of finalizing everything so please do not quote me on this. We will most likely have our hands on some beta codes so we'll do a contest and give those away. How, we have not decided on anything yet. I wanted to get a few developers to join our forum to answer some of your questions? Who would you want? FS did not do midnight opening for The Burning Crusade, well we are pushing for all FS stores (except where prohibited by law, Quebec will do 8am the day of launch) this round. Also one lucky customer at each location will get a chance to win the a Free copy of WOTLK. I'll send details to our operators first before we announce what you'll have to do to win one. Internally for our store staffs, we are thinking of doing a store deco contest, much like we did with PS3 last Xmas.

We need all you fan boys and girls (ask your parents if you are under 18 to come with you for legal reasons) to show up at midnight openings across the country. The more press and hype we generate and the more copies we sell, the more likelihood it will allow us to do more of these events. I think an event like this should be an experience, so come out and meet some fellow gamers.

Hello,

WWI is about done and I don't think there was any announcement regarding a WotLK release date. My question to Future Shop is, how accurate, or on what basis do you put an "expected release" date on software? I'v noticed you put an Oct, 31st expected release date. Big fan of WoW, if there is a midnight opening, you can bet I'll be there. Keep up the good work guys on games, unlike other retailers :/.

Thank you,

From the product page:

Release Date
Please note: The release date listed here for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King has absolutely nothing to do with reality. We've tried, desperately, to direct the Eye of Kilrogg towards Blizzard Headquarters to get a peak at the real date, but they've got some serious Mojo around that place. We will update this release date when new, more accurate data is available.

Graham,

Thanks for your input, even though it does not answer my question. Does Future Shop put dates in a hat and whatever date they pull out is whats going to be posted as "an expected release date"? Or is there some base on which they "guess" when it's going to be released. If you do not know the release date, would it not make more sense in saying "Release date: N/A"?

Thank you,

Yeah, dates are pulled from a hat. The hat varies from game to game, occasionally it's the "I PWN" hat, sometimes they use the "More Cowbell" hat. For Bioshock a tophat was used - it seemed appropriate.

If a hat is unavailable a list of release dates is attached to a dart board. The procedure is to turn around 5 times really quick in each direction, then whip the dart. When it hits the list that date is used, if it hits a bystander there's an arbitrary system to determine the date based on where it landed on the body.

For Lich King a different process was used. 5 characters were started and leveled to 70. Each was given a potential date. The date was chosen by which seeing which character was poly'd first by Talon King Ikiss in Sethekk Halls in Auchindoun. (for the record, it was the Pally. It's ALWAYS the Pally.)

As for N/A release dates, the system needs an actual date. Hence, selecting a date.

Is there any chance that the Collector's Edition will be available soon?  Blizzard has announced its existance, but no one seems to be carrying it yet.

How to, pre-order for pickup

The online store does not allow pickup from store as an option to pre-order this.  What's the best way to do this, or is the stock level of each store so unpredictable makes this impossible?

Thanks.
