You may have read me talk about my Samsung NC10 netbook before (because I love it and think it's probably one of the best pieces of technology I own). Well, when I got it I realized I wanted to "personalize" it to make it stand out (when I travel to conferences and the like, I often find that lots of journalists have a preferences for the NC10). As I didn't want to damage the netbook, I decided to go with a Gelaskin, removable art/protective covers produced by a Toronto-based company.
I received my Gelaskin within a couple of days after ordering, and while the application process wasn't exactly easy (you do need to be at least fairly dexterous to peel and paste it on without getting air-bubbles) now that it's on I couldn't be happier, especially because I've already tested out removing and replacing it, which works perfectly and leaves no damage where it was placed (and of course, there's always the sense of satisfaction I've gained by supporting a local company.
Best of all, they're not just for netbooks, with Gelaskins available in specific sizes to coat and protect everything including iPods, Blackberrys and a variety of PC and Mac laptops. And although I've not tried them, they also offer "Gelascreen" display protectors for iPods, which are, I've heard, superb (and you can get them bundled with a Gelaskin, too).
The company has a very wide range of skins from different artists (who are properly compensated for their work) with some artists you might have heard of including Kozyndan, H.R. Giger, and Vincent van Gogh (not sure how they compensate him, though). However, even more excitingly they've recently announced a partnership with Dark Horse comics to publish Gelaskins featuring Dark Horse artists, such as Yoshitaka Amano, Mike Mignola and characters such as The Goon and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
I give Gelaskins my highest recommendation if you're looking to either put a protective skin on your device or just make it stand out from the crowd. Mine has recieved compliments from everyone from other journalists to airport security men, so if that kind of thing is important to you, check them out
