Hold on, you get to blog about tech as your job?

As Laura so nicely introduced all of us in her post, I'm Tris one of the new tech bloggers here in the Future Shop community. I'm excited to be blogging we a great group of guys here. Lots to learn from everyone here, gaming, photography, general tech stuff...I think we'll be able to cover all the bases.

You're probably wondering where I'm coming from in this whole tech blogging thing. Well, I've always been a geek and a techie. From my family's first Apple IIe to my MacBook Pro, I've always been surrounded by technology. The thing is though, I've also always been the guy people came to fix and explain things. Yes, I do read the manuals, but I've also spent a lot of time helping people use technology. I don't think computers should be hard. Software should make sense. Using a computer or the Internet or Twitter or whatever shouldn't make your life harder, it's supposed to be helping you do something faster, easier, better.

Most of my friends know that when I started blogging in 2004 I did it as a lark. I wanted to add blogging as something that I could offer in my consulting practice. I figured I should find out what "this blogging thing" was all about if i wanted to keep my geek certification up to date. Hey I'd been building websites for about eight years by then, so blogging couldn't be too hard right?

Well it wasn't and soon it was my job. Between freelance professional blogging and being a part of a software company, I blogged a lot and about a lot of different things (think I could have a contest for people to find all the topics I've blogged about) but I've always tried to explain things simply and give my straight, unbiased opinion. This blog will be no different.

I'll be giving you tips and tricks I've learned about software and how to use the Internet. How to pick the right computer or printer or camera for you no matter what your skill level might be. Chances are I'll be reviewing things here and rest assured if I don't like something, you'll know it. If I like somethings about a product but not others, I'll tell you.

Look, I hate getting a new gadget that I thought would be great and it turns out not to be what I expected because the review I read wasn't entirely complete or accurate. I know you probably feel the same way, so why give you advice that I wouldn't want myself?

For example, I'm very, very picky about laptop keyboards and trackpads. Once I pick the features I want, the deciding factor is often the keyboard. If you spend as much typing as I do, you want to make sure that the keyboard works and fits for you. Simple as that.

Don't be surprised if I give you DIY tips too. Not every problem needs a solution that is bought in the store. Sometimes you can solve the problem with stuff you already have (like a cardboard laptop stand or using bananas to polish DVDs).

There you go.  I'm Tris, and I'll be your blogger this evening.

If you'd like to check out the other stuff I do online you can visit my personal blogmy photos on Flickrmy day job, and me on Twitter. Of course I'm happy to answer questions here and welcome your suggestions for posts.

Now, let's get to this blogging thing...
