The EA marketing blitz for Dante's Inferno reached new heights during Sunday's Super Bowl XLIV, with the company plunking down a huge wad of cash, estimated to be around the $3 million, to secure a coveted 30-second commercial spot during the sporting event. As strange as it might sound, given EA's strong roots in sports games (especially football), this is the first time the company has bought a Super Bowl commercial. The pressure on the B.C. government to step up and support its interactive entertainment industry has been mounting for years now. The province is home to Canada's largest gaming hub, surviving largely without the generous tax incentives seen in Ontario and Quebec. Responding to the lobbying by B.C.'s embattled gaming industry, the government's Finance Minister, Colin Hansen, announced a series of tax credits for the province's film and digital media industries. Earlier this week I wrote about a couple of notable AAA games dropping in early February, namely Star Trek Online (PC), and Bioshock 2 (multiplatform).
