For a while now the Toronto-based design team Superbrothers has been trailing an upcoming, er, "thing". They really didn't describe what it was, only that it would signify "a time of miracles" and (eventually) dribbled out the information that not only would it feature their work, but the input of Toronto superstar indie game developers Capybara Games (of Critter Crunch, and the just released Nintendo DS puzzler Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, which I'm overdue covering) and Toronto superstar musician Jim Guthrie. They've now announced it's a project called the Sword & Sworcery EP. Read more...

When I received my first iPod a few years back, I cursed Apple. iTunes didn't work as I expected, it kept wanting to 'fix' my library by rearranging my carefully crafted file structure, and essential features were either missing or I couldn't find them. At that time, in my mind, iTunes was broken, and one of the worst pieces of media managing software on the planet. I came from a PC background and couldn't understand how Apple couldn't simply take a look at Winamp and 'do the Apple thing' to it. I was not pleased. Read more...

I buy a lot of games for my iPod Touch. Some are good, some aren't, most are reasonably priced, so I tend not to mind. However, there are titles out there that are especially worth trying, and titles out there which are especially worth avoiding, so rather than just playing and forgetting about the games I've been buying, I've decided to start reviewing them here! With the latest launch of sexy new iPods and iTunes software announced from Apple, many headlines trumpeting the innovation and features will ring across websites, newscasts and newspapers around the world. But in the midst of this screaming chorus it's important to take a step back and realize that Apple really doesn't invent things. They innovate things. They take existing products and make them better. Read more...
Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away, as I prognosticated on what today's Apple Preveiw event would hold. Remind me not to get a job as a fortune teller
I'm not going to cover all the announcements, but let's see what I missed, where I was wrong, and the few times I hit the mark:

Every Fall, just after the Labour Day weekend, just as school is ramping up, and just before we start the pre-Christmas holiday shopping season... every Fall Apple has traditionally held a media preview event for iPod and iTunes products. Join me as I step outside my comfort zone and (gasp) make a prediction or two... Read more...
My pal, John Biehler, has been talking a lot lately about his new car, the Kia Soul. You could describe it as the SUV of the Mini Cooper. It's a little bigger, has a bit of trunk space, but it is still a tight little package. It's a small fuel efficient car that's perfect for these green times, but what sets the Soul apart is the way it can get geeked out. Read more...

The iPhone and iPod Touch are great pieces of hardware. Not, I think, for their ability as either communication devices or music players--they're significantly overrated in that respect, I feel--but in the wonder of the App Store. Ridiculous as the pricing structure has become, you can pick up hundreds of top-quality games for as little as 99 cents. One of the best games on the system is a title called Edge, by an independent studio called Mobigame. However, you can't buy it anymore. Read more...

The iPhone is more than a phone. The application library can turn this wonderful little device into just about anything you want, including a microphone and recorder and publisher for disc jockeys attending press conferences. With the Vancouver 2010 Olympics now less than 200 days away, mentoring is part of the summer training program for the athletes. Team Visa pairs up legendary athletes, like Kurt Browning, with up and comers like Jeff Christie (luge) and Alexa Loo (snowboarding). I took my iPhone to the press event to test out a couple different ways you can record and publish audio with your iPhone Read more...
