It’s already been a transformative year for Old Spice, a brand that was lucky to even sell a bottle of anything to any guy under 35. But the viral campaign surrounding Old Spice Guy has been a huge hit that has apparently helped achieve something of a breakthrough with a younger demographic. With a buff, charming guy in a towel extolling the virtues of being with “the man your man could smell like”, it was a great idea to have him do customized voice mail greetings for the masses, too.
Tonight Edmonton had a wicked summer thunder storm. Huge downpour flooding many underpasses, golf-ball sized hail, and one heck of a light show. The storm marched through Edmonton from south to north, and I was able to follow its development by using some high-tech tools... Read more...

It’s an awesome spot because it’s fun, seems highly improbable, and is irreverent.

I’ll be the first to admit that I like the idea of Google Reader, simply because I’m curious about what goes on in the world we live in, no matter how far away it may be. But I’m not sure I share the same enthusiasm for Reader as a platform, and though I think Google makes great products, I don’t want to use everything they have, either.
Is it possible to have a blog that requires just 2 hours or less of your daily attention, yet consistently bills $40 000 a month in ad revenue? For John Chow it's possible. The self-made money maker is one of the stars of blogosphere and he's condensed the tips from his blog into a new book, Make Money Online: Roadmap of a dot com mogul. Read more...
Talk to the 60 somethings in your world and they'll tell you about the 60s, man; the hippie era of marching in the streets during the heights of political activism. In 2010 youth are probably more politically active, but instead of marching, they click. Is Facebook activism a legitimate way to seek political change? Read more...
This week I started using Gowalla -- a check-in application/game for mobile devices similar to Foursquare, which means nothing if you've not used FourSquare either...so let me explain. Read more...
Though the name Blog sounds horrible; perhaps the name of a large pool of dank, dark, brackish water that eventually spawns a monster so horrible, only the most stalwart of cleft-chinned heroes could possibly defeat it, Blogging really is nothing to fear. Really... Read more...
Microsoft has announced that next week--November 17th, to be exact--the Xbox 360 is to launch its much talked-about Facebook, Twitter and instant-on HD video Zune Marketplace features. I was lucky enough to have a wee go on them all earlier this year, so what do I think? Read more...
The human powered search engine is greater than Google, and Google knows it which is why this week Google unwrapped Social Search. Ask a query of the search engine and it will not only crawl the web for the best matches, it will also crawl people in your social circle to see if they've tweeted, blogged, photographed or offered up anything of value to your question. Is it too early to say I've started planning my Christmas wish list? I mean it's after Thanksgiving and the commercials have already started. The egg nog has been in grocery stores for a week and the decorations have been at the bulk stores since August. So it's not too early, is it? Christmas season is book season and many new social media and business books have been generating talk across the internets this fall. Read more...

Perhaps Jason Calacanis is on to something. About 2 years ago, the internet startup star launched something he called a "human powered search engine." Mahalo would have it's search results catalogued by people. It's that same human powered search that is allowing Twitter, Foursquare, Yelp and a little thing called GPS to change the way search is conductedand the real time information on the go they create blows Google off the map.
