Hi,
I was wondering.
Cellphone providers sell us their plans at 50$/month minimum telling us that in fact we only paid a quarter of the real value of the phone (think iPhone at 150$) so part of the 50$/month is to finance the purchase of the phone right?
Well what happens after your 3-year contract expires? Now you own the phone, are they selling the same kind of plan but cheaper because they are not financing me the phone?
Any idea?
Thanks.

While you are obligated to a 3 year contract.... you have the option to change to a more expensive or cheaper plan to meet your needs during that term.
As a Telus client, I usually increase my plan when I'm going away on vacation, but reduce it when I get back.... I think you are allowed 2 switches a year without a surcharge.
So I would recommend speaking to your carrier and see what they can do for you.

After the contract expires, you will then go "month-to-month"; you get charged the same monthly fee, but you can cancel at anytime, or switch to prepaid. You can also sign on a new contract and get a new phone.
My wife has been on month-to-month for almost 2 years now.
