I'm ready to pounce on Snow Leopard, how about you?

08-28-2009 10:10 AM
By trishussey trishussey
I didn't post last night for a very good reason--I was getting ready for Snow Leopard. I'm glad that Brad agrees with me that Snow Leopard is a pretty big deal--Why Snow Leopard is important, to you and Apple - Tech Blog - Future Shop Community Forums--even if it doesn't appear to be. I think getting 7 GB of drive space back is a bonus (not that I'll complain) to the behind the scenes improvements we're seeing. By ending support for the PowerPC-based Macs, Apple can now focus on making OS X (XI?) better and better for the Intel machines. I see Snow Leopard as just the first step in that direction. Why Snow Leopard is important, to you and Apple

08-27-2009 06:30 AM
By bgrier
As announced earlier this week, Apple's latest version of the Macintosh operating system (Snow Leopard) will be released August 28th, this Friday. Which means, if I get my butt in gear and order it today, I'll likely have it in my hot little hands by the weekend. Future Shop promises (as I write this) that Snow Leopard upgrades will be available in-store on Friday. Which in turn means I know what I'll be doing this weekend -- upgrading my Mac Mini But why am I excited about this upgrade? Well, for two reasons, one from a technical perspective (I like working on gear) the other from a business perspective. Read more...

Hi, I'm a Brad and this is a day in my life.

In today's world, we're surrounded by technology. I thought I'd take this post and explore a typical day of my life with tech. This post may seem familiar to some, it was inspired by an email newsletter by Chris Brogan, an awesome guy and hella author of Trust Agents - a new book on Social Media, which I plan to read very very soon. On with my day. Read more...

Laptop or netbook, what's the best back-to-sc hool machine?

08-24-2009 10:50 PM
By trishussey trishussey
Ah back to school time. The time when lots of fresh young minds get their first machine of their own. Me? Mac SE in 1987. But what today some twenty years later? Most students aren't going to get a desktop machine, something more portable is in the offing. If I were writing this last summer the answer would be simple: find a laptop that fits your needs and budget. Today? Today we have laptops and netbooks as real options. So which is right for you? Which would I pick if I were going to school today? Read more...

So. You're heading back to school and need to invest in some new tech, the communal family PC with the 15" monitor in the den just won't work when you're a few hundred miles away in your college / university dorm room. What to do... Read more...

Artistic Protection : Gelaskins

08-24-2009 03:08 PM
By MathewKumar MathewKumar
You may have read me talk about my Samsung NC10 netbook before (because I love it and think it's probably one of the best pieces of technology I own). Well, when I got it I realized I wanted to "personalize" it to make it stand out (when I travel to conferences and the like, I often find that lots of journalists have a preferences for the NC10). As I didn't want to damage the netbook, I decided to go with a Gelaskin, removable art/protective covers produced by a Toronto-based company. Read more...

First Look: Palm Pre

08-24-2009 06:46 AM
By buzzbishop buzzbishop
This is an out of the box user experience styled review because it doesnt matter what kind of horses are under the hood if it's not comfortable. I didnt dig deep into the manual, I didnt do rigorous processing, download and battery life tests. I took the phone out, I tried to figure it out, I took some pictures, made some calls, did some browsing and fired off some tweets. The sort of things we use our smart phones for every day. ISO: the pixie dust of photograph y

08-23-2009 11:10 PM
By klausboedker
ISO (the sensor's light sensitivity) is sorta the 'pixie dust' of photography. It is not a mechanical process (such as shutter speed and aperture) and no longer a chemical process as when shooting with film. Now it is something as intangible as a pixel (whatever that really is) that catches a certain amount of light depending on the set ISO value. Read more...
