Ouch.

Earlier today I saw the latest cover of Rolling Stone. An awesome cover featuring two vampires and a human. Naked. Check out the real magazine cover as the image I’m using can’t do it justice.

I’ve been watching True Blood off and on for the last 2 seasons. True, it’s now in season three, but I’ve yet to download, borrow, or rent the episodes to catch up (don’t spoil it for me

The interweb is a wonderful thing. Using it, you can timeshift your media consumption habits as you need; download torrents of your favourite show, visit the program website at your leisure, reserve and consume virtual copies of your book, music, movie from the library at your leisure.

And yes, you can use it and the appropriate technology to consume the media at your leisure.

Which has changed the ways that Hollywood is entertaining us. Now, there are many more channels to access the audience. Glee experimented with live tweets back in the first few episodes of season one.  Seasons are being broken up into different viewing units with mid-season breaks occurring at new times throughout the year, and some programs, True Blood included, are even starting up and running through the traditional summertime lull. I’d expect TB to take a break between late September and maybe early December, for the seasonal season finale push. Yes, we can all thank Survivor for this when, as a mid-season replacment, it managed to capture the best of rating.

So, yes, since we’re much more sophisticated and able to timeshift our content consumption, so too are the content creators and their ability to stage and stagger releases to align with their business objectives.

After all, showbiz is all about the biz. The show, sadly, comes second.

This was a really interesting post - I never realised that about Survivor and the summertime slot...

I think it makes us particularly greedy for entertainment - e.g. when the ads come on I straight away pick up the phone! Not sure it's a good thing...
